About Lore Package #2
Sorry about the delay. I originally wanted the second package to contain more Macro-Theory and geographic information. I ended up making the Great Clans, which required even more Macro-Theory and a few other factions. That basically took up my summer. But here it is! The next stop is a proper article on the Guild and articles for all of its component Cities. In that package I also plan to have a bunch of new information on the Strets and Swells. I may finally get into sub-factions and vehicles. Maybe.

Quick History
Post-Apocalyptic America can be split into distinct “Epochs,” each with their unique circumstances and crises for people to confront
Pre-Burnout:
Amidst increasing levels of extreme nationalism, climate-change, and economic co-dependence, various organizations project that society is entering a “failure-spiral” and will soon collapse. The American Government makes contingencies by funding the Gemini Projects, and laying the groundwork for U3C. Non-state actors, like Formers, make their own plans for both surviving the collapse, and influencing future civilizations. All the while, average citizens grapple with the fact that everything they know is coming to an end. Most are paralyzed by fear, or force themselves into denial. A few make detailed plans for how they will endure, or possibly enjoy, the coming years.
The Burnout:
The general name given to the collapse of civilization during the year 2030. Due to the compounding strain of natural disasters, political discontent, and general mismanagement, various small countries across the world collapse during a single storm-season. This shut down global supply chains and creates an unprecedented refugee-crisis. Neighboring countries and alliances quickly find themselves overwhelmed, and implode. Superpowers, like the United States, choose to gradually abandon their dependents, and consolidate resources in an attempt to maintain order. When this fails, the remaining cities and safe-havens are razed— leaving only despair and disorder.
2031 The Winter After
The Winter of 2031 is amongst the most brutal in human history. The preceding violence has left enough dust and ash in the atmosphere to partially block the sun, creating an artificial volcanic-winter with catastrophically low temperatures and violent storms. Surviving groups must contend with extreme resource-scarcity, heavily armed marauders, many from the remnants of the American Military, and the hopelessness of their reality. During this period, factions either adopt radical alterations to their pre-Burnout lifestyles and cultures, or perish.
2042 First Meeting at Conver
The political, and spiritual leaders, from various factions across the continental United States meet in the remnants of Chicago to discuss broad economic strategy. Considered one of the most critical turning-points in societal re-development. At this point, surviving groups have evolved into fully distinct cultures with unique Mythologies, Economic/Industrial niches, and aspirations. Above all else, the first generation born after the Burnout is coming of age. The demand for land and resources has increased rapidly, and there must be a consensus for peace… or a system to wage war that doesn’t endanger the whole system in a “Great Struggle“.
2055 The Fall of Verdance
In July of 2055, The city of Verdance, the spiritual epicenter of America is sacked by the newly militarized faction of “Regime”. This leaves a significant power-vacuum, and technocratic factions start asserting dominion. In the same month, Earth is struck by a fragment of another planet that liquifies in the atmosphere, blocking out the stars. Meteors impact throughout the Southern United States, producing intense psychotropic affects in the displaced population from Verdance. Stories of extraterrestrial creatures in the region abound.
2067 End of the San-Fran Compact
With the death of the Warlord, “Graler”, a conglomerate of factions on the West-Coast Collapses. This ends the San-Fran Compact, which supplied the country with a consistent supply of raw material to base industry off of. With the economic system in jeopardy, other issues become chronically aggravated: the extinction of unique cultures due to political consolidation, restlessness in the new generation, and a rising supernatural presence stemming from the meteors. Various groups stand ready for a definitive conflict— the fate of the country hangs in the balance.
