Easily the most disturbing proposition ever made by a member of Formers, or in all of human history. The Verdant Divinity Theory states that Membrance is not a microorganism with natural processes that are unknown to science— it is a phenomena that is fundamentally incomprehensible to beings in this dimension.
Plu “contracted” the Aria-pattern from hardware that was onboard a deep-space probe. While early analysis of their brain-tissues indicated that the Aria had a distinct microbial form, Plu argued that the cells were merely a “presentation” of the actual pattern. Their experiences as a host for the pattern had left them with the impression that it was an ethereal entity of some kind.
Challenged to provide a scientific explanation for their dissenting opinion, Plu hypothesized that their Aria was a sort of cross-dimensional being. Somehow the original probe had become entangled with an entity from another dimension, and now that entity was entangled with Plu’s brain. Their mild telekinetic ability was actually the pattern “pushing” into their dimension and affecting energy-flows within it. The Aria may not even be “alive” by human definitions. This theory was quickly rejected and buried, shortly followed by Plu.
The introduction of the Barrier and V-Ronin patterns, along with increased activity by the Singing Road, brought this theory back into serious consideration. New researchers believed that Membrance itself may be a higher life-form that was trying to manifest itself in their dimension. The V-Ronin pattern’s ability to “reincarnate” itself may be indicative of a reality with radically different perceptions of life and death. The Barrier pattern’s apparent capacity to communicate with humans and give them accurate predictions of the future may also demonstrate that it has connections to different flows of time. This implied omniscience would mean that, as far as humans can understand, the Membrance patterns are “divine”.
However, none of these cross-dimensional theories give any insight as to what Membrance wants with Earth, or humanity— or if it is actually sentient.
